7/5/10 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Monday

I hope all of you had a great 4th of July! I also hope since it was a holiday you allowed yourself to enjoy the food you were just reasonable about portion sizes. For example, there wasn't any low-fat meat grilled so I just had a veggie sandwich (tomato, lettuce, pickles, a half a slice of cheese, and mustard on a bun). I was not about to let it all go to pot by eating a fatty hamburger or sausage. But, if you were craving a hamburger or sausage eating only half would be a good option as well. I was lucky because my family is fairly healthy. My Mom made a low-fat potato salad which I had a spoonful of, there was high fat homemade macaroni salad which I really wanted to try so I just ate a spoonful, and tons of veggies that I had with low-fat ranch. Dessert with my family is always another story. Everything there was homemade. Honestly if it's store bought I can do without it. I had made a creamy blueberry pie, there was a homemade peach and key lime pie, and a heath bar chocolate cake! I always love tasting the desserts but eating too much of any dessert makes me sick - especially because I'm allergic to sugar. So, I did what anyone would do...my husband took a sliver of each and then I got to try a bite of all of them! Remember it's all about portion control - don't deprive yourself of things you love or you will end up bingeing later. MONDAY Breakfast - 1 slice turkey bacon, 1/4 cup Break-free eggs, 100 calorie English Muffin Nectarine 1 cup fat-free organic milk Lunch - 2 slices turkey bacon on whole wheat bread with fat-free mayo, lettuce, and tomato Fat-free yogurt Snack - 3/4 cup of blueberries with scoop of fat-free cool whip Dinner - 2 oz. Laura's Lean Beef Burger Corn on the Cob with 1 tbsp. margarine Snack - Skinny Cow
