12/4/10 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Saturday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 4. December 2010 19:44

I'm experiencing my first situation of germs and how they spread like wildfire with family.  My husband had a fever yesterday and I kept hoping maybe he was just fighting off a small virus.  I didn't want our son to get it being so young.  We also have a tradition in my family called the holiday hop.  It is a progressive dinner where we get to see some of the family's lights and holiday decorations.  My Dad comes from a family of eight other brothers and sisters.  The holidays have always been done up in a huge way.  The first house is appetizers, the second dinner, and the third dessert as well as a White Elephant Gift Exchange.  It is a blast.  Usually each couple brings one nice gift and one humorous gift.  I've loved this event since I was a kid.  I look forward to it every year and let me tell you, for someone watching her weight the progressive dinner is always dangerous!  My plan this year was to bring a big salad so I could load up on this instead of some of the other tasty morsels that are usually also extremely fatty.  However, my husband's illness has only gotten worse today and now my son looks as if he may be getting it.  He's had a slight cough and runny nose and slept a lot today (which he normally doesn't do).  I can't tell you how disappointed I am.  I love spending time with my family and they live about an hour away so I don't get to see them as much as I'd like to.  This year is our year to do Christmas with my husband's family (we trade off every other year) so I will miss them again.  FJ had a little elf outfit he was going to wear and everything.  I love the holidays so much and with my mom being sick and missing the hop it's been a bummer thus far this year.  But, if I try to think positively maybe it's a blessing not driving so far tonight with snow accumulation and possible icy roads since our newborn would have been in the car.
